The text is clear and concise, and the pages are full of information. Gibbons's simple, clean, full-page watercolor-and-ink illustrations flow logically from one to the next. Particularly welcome are descriptions of some St. Patrick's Day symbols, such as shamrocks, leprechauns, and Celtic harps. A couple of picture books are available on the subject, such as Alice Schertle's Jeremy Bean's St. Patrick's Day (Lothrop, 1987), but this is an outstanding choice to fill the bill for nonfiction.

My students enjoyed the book

This book contains a lot of information about the life of St. Patrick and St. Patrick's Day. I purchased it for use in my 2nd grade classroom in a public school. It wasn't as appropriate for this situation as I had hoped. Several pages of the book go into the religious aspect of St. Patrick's life. I found I had to skip over some sentences in order to be politely correct in my classroom. My students enjoyed the book, and we were able to create an anchor chart with the main details of the text. Gail Gibbons is a wonderful author and illustrator...so this is main reason I had purchased this book for use in my classroom without previously seeing the details.

Perfect information text for St. Patty's Day

Cute book. Gibbons always delivers when it comes to informational text that is usable with young readers/learners. Every student who heard this book liked it, and it's a great way to introduce this author to the kids. I twinned this with the DePaolo book that was historical fiction and found the kids loved both and got different information from each.

Covers it all for kids with a catchy story line and pictures.

Oh this is just the cutest book to help you child learn more about St Patricks Day! The art is well done and I like that it covers the history and new traditions and the biblical meaning behind the clover. This has become a favorite book even weeks after the holiday! My son is 5 and loved it and had many questions it was super cute and really helped him learn visually about the holiday.
