MARK METTER
born 1972, Dipl.-Ing (University of Applied Sciences, Degree in Electrical Engineering), has been at Siemens AG since 1999 and is responsible for the development of customer-specific IT and network solutions, system tests and ITlution products. As a consultant, he passes on his knowledge of IT solutions, Ethernet, IT Security and WAN networking, software development and application consulting to others in workshops.

Really nice work, contents don't mesh with the title

There are very few books available on Profinet, outside of the standards groups. I have lots of experience with industrial networking, sw & h/w development and other prerequisites to appreciating this topic. Thus, I thought those things, combined with this book, would hopefully provide enough information get a good start on understanding current devices, and then ultimately providing a good base on which to develop a compatible device. As a bonus, I thought that I might learn about a wider array of other profinet-compatible devices.

Unfortunately for me, the coverage was at once too broad and too focused. For instance, the book provides information on high-level topics in networking, ethernet, I/O and so forth, but without a lot of detail. This overview may be helpful to some readers, but seemed to me to be review for those in deep enough to be tackling this sort of work.

At the same time, Siemens specific topics - primarily programming - are covered in extreme depth. If that's what you're after, this might be just what the doctor ordered.

Bottom line for me: I know that "Siemens" is clearly printed on the cover, so I expected a bias. Where it runs off the rails is the PROFINET portion of the title. I feel it was disingenuous to make that big and bold, when so little of the book - hardly any - describes the protocol itself. This is a technical book, covering a specific topic, and I expect that to be addressed directly, before diving into ancillary topic, however useful they may be.

The book is beautifully typeset, and effective images are used throughout. It appears to be well edited too. It's very readable - great. Again, in my view, the only serious issue is the contents are not what the cover and description claims them to be. For that reason, I just have to give 4 stars instead of 5.

Compelling Study of Literary Effects

I'm a fiction writer and poet who rarely reads literary criticism. I'm of the generation that was brought up on the joy-killing exegeses of the new criticism. And the joy-killing post-structuralists debase art by abusing it in the service of other concerns. But Clune's book is essentially about literary aesthetics and the mechanisms of literary effects, which interest me and which I find to be a noble goal of literary scholarship. Unlike most works of literary scholarship these days, Clune's book is readable, compelling, impressive in its breadth and not overly bogged down by jargon.

Perfection

My only complaint is that I wish it were longer!

Almost every page somehow related to my life and offered comfort. This book will be kept on hand for when I need reminders to help me pick up and keep moving.

charming

I first found Bianca Sparacino reading a poem on video via Thought Catalog. This is the first audiobook I’ve heard and/or purchased. I took a chance on the narration instead of physically reading a book because the poet’s video displayed a pleasing voice. I do not think a review would do justice without quotations from her poetry. Here are a few:

“I am willing to trust”

“You were made to endure”

“But rather, we love because we have someone’s else blood within our veins.”

“Do not hide your wounds.”

“I’m writing this to say I’m sorry. I’m poison the I love, so this is my confession.”

“May you dip your wings in ink so that your words fall from the sky…”

“Promise me you won’t run back to what cracked you…”

“Take your life back from any negativity within it.”

“Let that girl know she inspires you.”

Each of Bianca’s poems arrives in this book as life reminders; the most truthful and questionable thoughts we all have within us, deep in the brain and/or heart. Furthermore, Bianca encourages us to have patience in life and
“wait for it.” Whatever you truly feel you deserve, “wait for it.”

(On a side note, when Bianca exclaims “my God,” it is quite charming.)

Lastly, this poet leaves us to

“focus on the beauty,”

and turn love into an openness for a soulmate “that does exist.”

About the Author
Dr. Yuan Wang, former head physician of several departments of the Chengdu Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in China, is a faculty member at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM) in San Diego. Warren Sheir is a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist as well as a PCOM faculty member. Mika Ono is an award-winning writer and editor. They each live in Southern California.

Fantastic cookbook, fantastic resource

I am a licensed acupuncturist and practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and I prescribe various recipes from Ancient Wisdom, Modern Kitchen. My patients love the recipes and information as much as I do. Food is medicine, and the first part of the book describes different foods' qualities and healing properties. The pattern differentiation of each recipe reflects the individualized treatment strategies used in Chinese Medicine. The miso tahini green bean recipe is one of my favorite dishes ever, and I make it at least 1-2x/week in the warmer months. I just ordered a few copies for wedding gifts. Yuan Wang and Warren Sheir were 2 of my favorite teachers at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, and having this resource allows their teaching presence to remain in my life.

Tasty & Easy

I am a practitioner of Chinese medicine who has had long time interest in food therapy. This book, not only presents therapeutic recipes for healing, but they are also very easy to make and tasty! I recommend this book to my patients and they have had nothing but positive remarks! Other Chinese medicine cookbooks in comparison use ingredients that are almost impossible to obtain in the West. These recipes and commentary make cooking in a Chinese manner easy and fun, and above all teach you how to integrate herbs and other tricks to heal your body and soul.

Where Have You Been All My Life?

I have had this book about 3 weeks now and I decided to write a review to encourage people to take a leap and buy it! The recipes are delicious! What I like best are the mineral-rich broths, and that they use the soaking liquids in the recipes. For lunch today, I had Cool-as-a-Cucumber Salad, Terrific Tofu and Mushrooms, Seaweed-Sweet Potato Simmer, and brown rice. I could not get anything that good at any Chinese restaurant I know of. I have also made and recommend: Vitality Fish Soup, Flu Season Soup, Mushroom Brown Rice, Move-the-Qi Daikon Salad (great with added mung sprouts), Outstanding Oatmeal, Meditative Mint, Ginger, and Tangerine Tisane, Immunity Building chicken stock, and the Togarichi Topping. If you like Oriental food, this is a somewhat different approach with great results! Thanks to the authors for their thorough work.

Easy to digest best practices and landscape summary book

If you are not sure where to begin with APIs, or you are having trouble putting all the pieces together in planning an API specification, then this book will help you a lot. It also acts as a launchpad, directing you out to various tools and services on the internet that can assist you in creating and managing an API specification. The main tool used here is the RAML (RESTful API Modeling Language) specification.

The subject matter is delivered fluidly, making this book an easy read. There are many instances where topics are repeated in different verbiage, but for the most part I felt this was helpful to solidify the knowledge.

What the book is lacking in is granular details, or other various "gotchas" when it comes to writing and maintaining actual code projects. While it does give solid advice and best practices, these were not enough for me to feel comfortable jumping directly into writing a RAML representation for my own API. There simply wasn't enough "code walkthrough" for me to get started directly from this book.

Overall, this is a good place to start. It is a best practices and landscape summary book. It will get you thinking in the right direction.

Hey, I am not complaining the content, but I the kindle version is mediocre. It seems like a pdf version instead of epub. The resolution of the figure is low and blur. I would not recommend Kindle version until they get the book full converted.

First, if we do our own research, then we don't need your book, now do we?

Second, you do not understand how quotes work. Either you are referring to the quoted words or text in a meta sense, you are repeating something that someone else said, or you mean that the quoted word or words do not have their normal meaning. If "duped" (use 1) does not really mean duped (use 3), then you are saying we have not been duped, and can go about our drab, wretched lives.

From Far Away, Volume One is a lovely little shoujo manga by Kyoko Hikawa. The art is simple, yet imaginative and skilled. The story is about a shy junior high school girl named Noriko who accidentally finds herself in a strange and fantastic land. Her only companion is a handsome, mysterious warrior named Izark. Noriko must learn to trust Izark completely, because she is completely helpless, lacking any fighting or athletic skills, and she does not speak the native language. Nor does Izark speak hers.

Izark knows why Noriko has come to his land, but she does not. He refers to her as something called The Awakening. But far from being benevolent, The Awakening is supposed to awaken the Sky Demon, and bring destruction to the land. Izark knows Noriko might have to be killed. But he knows she is innocent, and feels compelled to help her.

Throughout the book, several more hunks are introduced, including the slightly androgynous and divinely gorgeous Lord Rachef (ok, the names in this book aren't very good) and a blond trader who helps Noriko and Izark.

The art is clever. The series reminds me of a good cartoon you might see from the 70's or 80's on American Saturday morning TV, rather than a modern anime.

Lacking in this book is any kind of bio of or notes by the author. Most mangas have periodic sidebars where the author writes informative entries. Here there is absolutely no clue to the person behind the art and story. It feels like it was written by a ghost.
