Isadora and Lola loved freely and travelled widely, but also experienced great tragedies in their lives, and died far too young.

This tale is written from an imagined point of view, written in the first person. It is not a biography. It is, however, written after detailed research into the lives of the two women and endeavours to portray their personalities and retell their experiences within the relevant historical context.�As the writer resides in Ballarat Australia, she has written several chapters about Lola's visit to the Ballarat goldfields in the 1800s.�

The writer calls upon her own experiences of theatre, to get inside the heads of the dancers. This book also features a Sonnet at the start of each chapter, which can then be reread at the end, for it's a poetic pr�cis of the narrative, or feelings, contained within the chapter.

Flamboyant and free spirited dancers. Ahead of their times.

While Isadoralola is a fictional tale of nineteenth and twentieth century dancers Lola Montez and Isadora Duncan, I found myself wondering if I were reading their diaries.

These two women have basically the same personalities; both with narcissistic views on their own opinions and performances; both were very into politics and women’s rights, and both were wildly promiscuous free spirits. To these women, a person is “dim-witted” if he/she does not agree with their views or enjoy their performances. It’s almost as if Lola Montez was born again within Isadora Duncan’s body. Their lives definitely make for an interesting read.

Personally, I was more interested in Lola Montez’s story. She was a bit more wild and intriguing.

The writing is wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed Jeanette Sobey’s take on the two women’s lives, though I wish she’d taken more time to explain each event in further detail. I was left with questions and a longing for more romantic detail throughout each love interest scene. The scenes varied and changed too drastically. There were more thoughts than action and dialogue as if I were reading their autobiography instead of a tale, which made for a dragging intro, but I found myself delving into the story and engrossed with each event. Overall, I would recommend.

I felt like the Author knew these women personally

I have to say that this book was very well written. The Author really gets into the minds of the characters and if I didn't know who they were I would think she created two very lively characters. There are many heroine's that we all know and love that were major advocates for feminism and equal rights for women (although there is no "girl power" fist pumping going on) but these two women and many others have been sadly overlooked. I really do not think this should be classified as fiction because the author really did a great job of documenting the travels and experiences of these very real women. I really think that this novel will start a whole new trend of people wanting to know more about these women and the lives that they lived. I believe they are partially responsible in a way for the progression of interpretation when it comes to dance instead of sticking with the rigorous rules and postures of the traditional. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a dancer or has an interest in the artist mindset. In my opinion this book will be a subject matter for a college literature or woman studies class someday.

Isadora Duncan and Lola Montez come to life.

This is a true look into the artistic mindset of certain performance artists. I have known many artist types in my day and it seems to me they have their head in clouds most of the time with delusions of grandeur and a sense of self importance. What people fail to recognize is that these narcissistic traits are a very necessary evil when dealing with similar characters in a very competitive profession. This author really captured the thoughts of these women and went way above and beyond to tell a realistic story about both Isadora Duncan and Lola Montez. The first person telling of both stories really had me believing that she knew these characters personally. I will keep my eye out for more novels by this very talented author.

This really will work!

I have done hypnotic regression with a certified Life Between Life Therapist twice. It was expensive but worth it. It was a life changing experience. I read through the hypnotic suggestions scripts in this book and found that they work even just reading the script with the intention of experiencing self hypnosis. I would not have recognized the authenticity of the experience however, had I not had previous experience with past life regression. This is not like watching a movie of your past life, you get impressions and pictures in your mind in the same way you read a book and imagine from the worded descriptions -what the author is trying to communicate. This would allow you to collect memories of many past lives and with time perhaps improve your ability to achieve clearer sharper identification of what you are experiencing.

It seemed like a rather cumbersome task

I had intentions to do this regression on myself, but due to the logistics I never got around to it. The instructions are to record yourself reading the script (being the facilitator). Go into the regression while recording yourself (being the client) and at the same time, be able to stop the facilitator's voice when necessary so the client has plenty of time to reveal what is being seen. It seemed like a rather cumbersome task, so I never completed it. However, due to this book and "My Past Lives and Life Plan" by the same author definitely inspired me. I am currently taking classes to become NPL certified. Thanks Dr. Schwimmer!

There are many books on the market that try to give both the starting physician and the experienced physician guidance on "current therapy", but most of them, I think, spend way too much time on diagnosis and not nearly enough time on the details of treatment - which drugs to use first, second, third, and in what dosages, and the rationale for choosing certain drugs. This book, Drug Therapy: Decision Making Guide, however, is written on the principle that most diagnoses a physician makes are reasonably routine, so it saves your time by getting right to the point - how to treat, with plenty of detail. I especially appreciate the fact that the authors back up their preferences with CITATIONS from the current literature. This is a great book for medical students, interns and residents to learn from, giving them guidance solidly based in the literature for effectively using medicines. This edition, written in 1996, is starting to get a little old in some areas and it really is time for the authors to update it, but, even so, it's still a good guide and is still completely up-to-date in most of the areas that matter.

Smoothly incorporating a great deal of information, the text follows creatures such as a sloth, capuchin monkeys, and a poison-dart frog as they move through their habitat. Guiberson conveys the relationships among different animals by describing their activities at various times of day. Small dramas such as a squabble over nest space reveal the continual change and movement in this environment. Effective use of onomatopoeia further enhances the narrative with forest sounds. Jenkins uses his signature collage style to bring this realm alive for viewers. Although his humans seem a bit stiff, they are minor figures in the overall portrayal of the lush, green world. Vibrant words and sensory impressions bring the creatures' noisy cacophony and slithering, swooping motions up close, while gracefully incorporated facts convey a surprising amount of information about basic survival. Each spread describes rain forest animals, from tiny scissor-jawed ants to white-tailed deer as they search for food, fend off enemies, and protect their young. Guiberson doesn't shy away from the realities of predators and death: an eagle carries off a cute capuchin monkey in her talons--dinner for her hungry chicks. But the author balances the heavier facts with lighter ones. The proportions of the animals in Jenkins' paper-cut collages may occasionally confuse children: on one spread, a mouse and sloth appear to be the same size. But the artist's colorful, textured images create a rich sense of atmosphere, and the precise details and lively compositions will easily draw children back to the text. Final spreads of a scientist, suspended in the forest canopy as she studies medicinal plants, reinforce how humans, too, are part of life in the wild forest. Gillian Engberg

Long, educational, entertaining

A little long as a read aloud, but definitely entertaining for a slightly older crowd (3rd grade?) and provided a lot of details not found in every other book on rainforests. It is primarily about the sloth, but many other animals are part of the story as well. There are a lot of specific facts dealing with numbers (lengths, populations, distances) that make this one better for an older child, and probably useful for book reports.

Jaan Valsiner�is Niels Bohr Professor of Cultural Psychology at Aalborg University, Denmark. He is the founding editor (1995) of the Sage journal, Culture & Psychology.� And of The Oxford Handbook of Culture and Psychology (2012). He is also the Editor-in-Chief of Integrative Psychological and Behavioral Sciences� (Springer, from 2007).
